Make a List of What is Being Moved
Before you start packing, keep track of what is being moved. Create a computerized list of the contents of the boxes, or keep a list of the items in a spiral notebook.
Make Sure You Have Plenty of Supplies
You will find out that you will need many boxes to pack up your belongings. It is always better to have too many boxes that not enough. You can get boxes from Allen’s Transfer Moving & Storage or grocery stores. You will need very good packing tape to close up the boxes so they do not break open. Use packing paper and bubble wrap to wrap and cushion breakable items.
Pack Well in Advance of Moving Day
Packing well in advance of moving day will save you time. Pack anything that you will not be using at the moment. If you will be using items like silverware and dishes, pack up most of them. Use the bare minimum until the move.
Be Sure to Use Your Luggage
Pack up as much of your clothes in your luggage. You can pack the clothes that cannot fit into your luggage in trash bags and boxes.
Keep Similar Items Together
You will want to keep items that that are similar together in the move. Keep shades and light bulbs with lamps, pillows with beds, microwaves with toasters, TV stands with TVs, and more.
Keep Prized Possessions with You
It is a good idea to keep valuable possessions like antiques, collections, and other items with you in the vehicle. If there is no room in your vehicle, make sure that your mover knows that they are fragile. Check your homeowners insurance to see if you are covered during the move.
Keep Important Documents with You
Documents like recent bank records, current bills, school records, birth certificates, wills, and more should be with you during the move.
